Wade Street Missionary Support Scheme for 2007/8
Below is a list of those people and organisations to be supported by Wade Street Church during 2008/9, and a guide for those who are unfamiliar with the work undertaken by each, to enable you to decide about your future support for the years ahead.
The Standing Support List is for those who receive support until recommendations of the elders and decisions of the church meeting alter the list. They are not subject to voting. The missionaries and organisations on the Optional Support List are not automatically supported. Some have close connections with the church, but they are organisations rather than individuals and have to be voted on each year. The Optional Support list is at the bottom of the page, and each person may vote for up to five, and return your results to: Nigel Parrett, by Sunday March 16th. Email: nparrett@sgfl.org.uk.

Additional Support List
- Akany Avoko - Stephen Wilkinson
Akany Avoko is a children's home, in Madagascar. There is limited funding from parents and CWM. State funding exists in theory only. Some children are placed by the juvenile court, others by families with special needs and others were babies who were found abandoned to die. Some children stay for years and a Christian family home atmosphere is created. Appropriate skills and training are given and Akany Avoko also provides a half-way-home for otherwise homeless girls. Stephen was presented with the MBE in 1998 by the Princess Royal, who subsequently visited the home in 1999. Stephen and Hardy say "Our earnest desire and prayer is that each of the youngsters in our care shall come to know Jesus Christ as Saviour, Lord and Friend". Hardy retired in 2004. Several church members join Brian in schools to help with the work including displaying their puppetry skills.
- MAF
Mission Aviation Fellowship exists to speed the spread of the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ by word and deed in places of deepest human need - isolated places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline. Every four minutes an MAF plane is taking off somewhere in the world. These flights enable crucial work by aid and development agencies, missions, local churches and other national groups to take place. Wade Street Church has supported this work for a number of years. Their website is: www.maf.org

As they seek to serve the Lord in Macedonia, they have recently been upgrading their language skills.
- The Railway Mission
Founded in 1881, the Railway Mission remains the major pioneering, front line Christian influence in the national railway industry. Sandy Kirkwood is the Railway Mission chaplain in the West Midlands with an open door to all sections of the privatised industry. Sandy worked for several years with the Mission to Military Garrisons. At one time he worked in Beirut helping to build an orphanage. Sandy is married to Patricia and they have three children. Their home is in Birmingham. The Railway Mission website is: www.railwaymission.org
- Slum Children Project, Durgapur
This is a project run by the Church of North India to provide a school and education for the slum children. This project was just about to start up when Roger and Iris Hartley went to India. For part of their visit they stayed with the Bishop of Durgapur and saw the site where the school is to be built. Iris is organising a visa to go back to Durgapur to help in the school for a couple of weeks and encourages the church to have a link with the school. The slum school at present has 80 pupils age between 4 and 15 who are given uniforms, food and exercise books. It costs £50 per year per pupil to run the school. The school buildings will be opened in March [the school started before the buildings].
- Youth with a Mission
It all started when a 20-year-old American college student spent some time in prayer. As he leaned back in his bed and looked up, he saw what he called a "mental movie." He saw waves on a map. The waves turned into young people, going to every continent, sharing the good news about Jesus. "Was that really you, Lord?" he asked. This radical idea, that young people could be missionaries, stayed with this young man, Loren Cunningham. Four years later, in 1960, he started an organization with that idea expressed even in its name: Youth With A Mission. Today, Youth With A Mission (YWAM) has grown into one of the world's largest Christian mission organizations. The story of how YWAM began and how it grew is a story of God's direction and God's grace in using ordinary people from countries all over the world. Their website is: www.ywam.org
